A labourer was on Wednesday afternoon killed after he reportedly walked into the path of a moving minibus at Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara (EBD).Persaud Hari, 64, of Lot 59 Sarah Johanna, EBD, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.Based on reports gathered, the minibus driven by a 50-year-old man of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was proceeding to Georgetown when the father of three attempted to cross the roadway and came into the path of the minibus.He was picked up in a conscious state and rushed to the medical institution but died while receiving medical attention. The driver underwent a breathalyser test but no trace of alcohol was found on his breath. Nevertheless, he was taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.Jairaj Hari, the dead man’s youngest son, told Guyana Times that he was at work when he received news of the accident. As such, he went straight to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was told that one of his father’s legs was broken.“When I see him, he had on bandage on one of his foot but he had other bruises on his face and blood was on his clothes,” the man stated. He noted that after he spoke with his father, he left the hospital at about 19:00h and went home.The aggrieved son noted that when he returned to the Diamond Hospital on Thursday morning, he was told that his father had passed away.“When I wake up this morning (Thursday), I see a missed call from the Police Officer who was investigating the matter… I nah had credit to call he back so I went straight to the hospital… after I get the news that my father died, I guess that officer de trying to call me”.He explained that his father does odd jobs in the community and on the day in question, he was heading home after working on a farm. The son noted that his father was not under the influence of alcohol when he met in the accident although he would normally “take his lil thing”.Nevertheless, he noted that the family is awaiting the post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The man leaves to mourn his three children.
