FREEHOLD – The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will present “The Forgotten War Along the Jersey Shore: New Jersey and the War of 1812,” a Rescheduled PowerPoint lecture at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, presented by Robert L, Silverman, educator, lecturer and historical re-enactor.Admission is $5 for members, $7 for nonmembers.Though not as embedded in the country’s consciousness as The American Revolution or the Civil War, the War of 1812 had vital consequences for our young nation.British attacks on American shipping and the impressment of its seamen were major causes of the war. The general public regarded it as a “second war of independence” from Britain. New Jersey provided more than 6,000 troops for the nation’s land campaigns, but the state’s prominence in the war rested upon the naval battles that took place along its Atlantic coast.Silverman will accompany his illustrated show with a vivid retelling of the most absorbing of these battles.Although there were a minority of Jews at the time, a few individuals stand out: Judah Touro, businessman and philanthropist; privateer Jean Lafitte; and Uriah P Levy, who in later years was to become the first Jewish Commodore in the U. S. Navy and whose nephew L. Napoleon Levy, was a prominent Monmouth County resident. The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County is located at 310 Mounts Corned Drive. It is a not-for-profit organization and is handicapped accessible. For more information call 732-252-6990 or visit www.jhmomc.org.
Fulham require a big second half effort after conceding two soft goals from set-pieces against their relegation rivals. The Whites began on the front foot but Dimitar Berbatov fluffed the biggest chance on eight minutes, slicing wide from Sascha Riether’s cross.Sunderland, who had been happy to sit back early on, soon took a foothold and went in front when Johnson curled a free-kick through the grasp of Fulham keeper David Stockdale. The Premier League’s basement club doubled their lead just before the break as Johnson pulled a free-kick back for Ki Sung-Yeung, who fired through a crowd of players.Fulham will be disappointed they didn’t make their possession and territory dominance count early on.Berbatov, who had earlier mistimed a header from a corner and sent it straight at Vito Mannone, somehow managed to squander what transpired to be Fulham’s best chance, after Riether’s cross had found the Bulgarian unmarked.Phil Bardsley saw a deflected low drive pushed away by Stockdale in Sunderland’s first chance but Fulham continued to look the better side.Adel Taarabt blasted a shot straight at Mannone after jinking into the penalty area when he perhaps should have squared it.Sunderland took the lead on 28 minutes when Johnson was adjudged to have been fouled by Steve Sidwell 20 yards out and the former Manchester City winger beat Stockdale.John Arne Riise then gave away the free-kick from which Ki scored, with Fulham slow to react to Johnson’s cut back.Fulham: Stockdale; Riether, Senderos, Amorebieta, Riise; Duff, Parker, Sidwell, Dempsey; Taarabt; Berbatov.Subs: Kasami, Kačaniklić, Richardson, Hughes, Dejagah, Etheridge, Bent. (Visited 33 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0 Pasteur’s vision of eradicating rabies remains unfulfilled 129 years after he cured a boy. Isn’t that a nobler goal of science than storytelling about evolution?Science Magazine says, “Pasteur’s vision is within our reach—we only need to move the hand forward to grasp it.” That vision was the worldwide elimination of rabies, a cruel, painful way to die. Here we are, 129 years later, “yet Pasteur’s vision for ridding the world of rabies has not been realized,” the magazine states in a Policy Forum entry (Sept 28), “Implementing Pasteur’s vision for rabies elimination.” Instead, “Rabies remains a threat to half the world’s population and kills more than 69,000 people each year, most of them children.”The story of Louis Pasteur’s attempts to intelligently design a rabies vaccine, building on his spectacular success with anthrax, is well known (see our Biography). He wasn’t ready when the mother of stricken Joseph Meister came begging for help, and he hesitated to use it. But knowing the boy was sure to die without it, he gave Joseph the series of injections. The test vaccine worked! Other patients flocked to his lab, with hope, for the first time, of being cured from the 100% fatal disease. Why hasn’t rabies been eradicated in all the years since? The article in Science describes how mass dog vaccination campaigns could do the trick, since dogs are the primary vectors of the disease. There are political and economic hurdles to overcome, but the six authors from 3 continents believe it is possible. The only thing lacking, they say, is the will to “move the hand forward” to grasp Pasteur’s vision of eradicating the disease. The article begins with a chilling photo of adults trying in vain to help a 16-year-old boy in agony, who, not having access to the lifegiving serum, “suffers the terrifying symptoms of rabies.”After 14 years of reporting, we can vouch for the fact that articles about Pasteur or rabies are very, very rare in the major science journals. But hardly a week goes by without Darwin, Darwin, and more Darwin permeating every facet of science. If evolutionists really cared about people, they would get off their behinds, drop their handfuls of “tantalizing speculations” that do nobody any good (see 6/25/14 commentary), and use their training to save lives. They could start right here, right now, by taking Pasteur’s vision to heart. What has Darwin done for the world lately? (see The Biology of the Second Reich, What Hath Darwin Wrought, and The Dark Side of Darwin). Here’s some of what he has done for starters: evil, war, sexual license, mass murder, genocide, useless speculations, just-so stories, eugenics, purposelessness, cultural erosion, nihilism, anarchy and death. Here’s what Pasteur has wrought: life, health, mercy, kindness, and hope. That’s also the legacy of many others in our list of great Creation Scientists, such as Pasteur’s close friend, Joseph Lister, who brought antiseptics to medical practice, and James Simpson, who brought anesthesia to surgery.Jesus said, “Every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit…. You shall know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-20)
Womens Ladies Girls 100cm Pink Color Long Curly Wigs High Quality Hair Carve Cosplay Costume Anime Party Bangs Full Sexy Wigs : I’ve been going to comic conventions for a while now
So soft and beautiful and looks amazing on. I’ve never used a long one for cosplay before but bought this one to be momoi from kuroko no basket. I placed the order and it arrived at my flat the next day with standard shipping.I was very impressedi had to trim and style the thing a bit, which was a challenge since i’ve never had to do that before but for my first really long wig i was not disappointed. It barely fluffed up when i was at the con i wore it to, when friends of mine had struggled with keeping theirs at bay. This was a great buy and totally worth the money i spent on iti’m sooo buying from here againi have attached three photos to this review, one for length pre-styling ((i’m 5’8″)) and one to show how the wig fit pre-styling and one on the day of the convention. Really good wig, its not as thick at it looks but damn it nice. Cant wait to get it on at the festivals this year. Came packed really well, the box it came it keeps it nice and flat too if you dont want to fork out for a proper headstand. Well it was originally got for a fancy dress party but it has had plenty of use since friends have borrowed it and my niece wore it to school for crazy wig day. I’ve been going to comic conventions for a while now. I’ve been going to comic conventions for a while now and this wig will be playing a big part in them. Really cute and colour is like on the image . Amazingly shipped and came a little earlier than expected . Really neatly packed tooonly problem with it is that there is a lot of hair at the front is very long and hard to manage but nothing that hinders it too much . It is very soft and great quality. It is thick and i love the colour. I was disappointed that there was no wig cap with it but overall it is amazing. Alright but not as thick as it looks. Good quality wig especially for the price. Good size, has adjustable straps to make it smaller if needed. Only thing is it’s not as thick as it looks in the picture. The picture looks like maybe 2 of the wigs over each other. It’s still a pretty good wig though. I actually needed three of these for a rose quartz from steven universe cosplay, and they’re all perfect. A great length, really full and thick individually and i love the colour. Alright but not as thick as it looksReally worth the money !and they’re all perfect. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Matt ReeseTo celebrate a decade of success, the Ohio Youth Swine Committee blew off the barn doors last night at the 2019 Bash at the Barns.“This is 10 years for the Ohio Youth Swine Committee in the swine barn to enhance the show for our children. We wanted to open up to the other exhibitors the blessings we have in this barn. We fed some of the dairy kids, some of lamb kids, and Bill Tom opened up the steer barn so we could bring in some acts,” said Michelle Kuhlwein with the Ohio Youth Swine Committee. “We wanted to show 4-H is about family and it doesn’t matter what barn you’re in. Kalmbach Feeds, Apex Clean Energy and Beck’s Hybrids helped make this possible, along with 10 other food sponsors. I hope everybody had a great night.”The event featured the bands Jason Nutt & Highway 70 that performed their ode to showing livestock, “Purple Banners” and North to Nashville. Exhibitors from around the fair enjoyed the show.
Tags:#GitHub#Open Source No one really knows what Apple will release next, pushing analysts and interested observers to scour patent filings, review job openings and even check factory orders. But to see the future of technology, Tim O’Reilly has for years told us to look to the alpha geeks, to developers, and watch their current concerns turn into mainstream reality. One great place to track developers is GitHub, the world’s most popular code repository. But with over 7.8 million projects hosted on GitHub, it can be a daunting task to determine which projects are flying and which are mostly dormant.Or it was, until GitHub announced its new Trending page.An Open Window On An Open FutureAs explained in a blog post, GitHub has launched a new Trending page to showcase the top-25 trending projects. The site allows you to quickly gauge what’s trending today, this week, or this month, backed by a variety of data points including stars, forks, commits, follows, and pageviews, weighting them appropriately. As GitHub explains, “It’s not just about total numbers, but also how recently the events happened.” Matt Asay In addition to the capability to track trends by time, the service also allows you to filter by language. Given GitHub’s developer focus, it’s also not surprising that the Trending page lets you drill down into the individual developers and the organizations of developers that have trending repositories on GitHub.Not surprising, but still cool.So What’s Next?Of those 7.8 million projects, what’s bubbling to the top? Which projects are capturing the imaginations (and time) of the world’s developers?Topping the list is Effeckt, an HTML5 library that enables high-performance CSS transitions and animations. In other words, it dramatically advances the state of the art for the web. Have a look:Second on the list is Bootstrap, a front-end framework for faster, easier web application development. And while you might assume the rest of the trending projects also involve the web, it turns out that the projects are quite varied. For example, number five is a Skype replacement called Tox that “allows you to connect with friends and loved ones without anyone else listening in.” In other words, it’s the NSA-free Skype. Number six? It’s called Skeuocard, and it “progressively enhances credit card input forms so that the card inputs become skeuomorphic, facilitating accurate and fast card entry, and removing barriers to purchase.”Further down the list are Photoshop enhancements, projects from Facebook and the BBC to catch visual regressions in Web applications and compare screenshots, respectively, and a replacement of memcached.A Very Varied FutureIn other words, while the future of technology certainly looks to be skewed toward the web, it’s a highly varied web. And it’s all happening on GitHub. In the open. There are, of course, other ways to use the GitHub API to determine which projects are hot (and which are not), but the GitHub Trending service makes it very simple. No code required. In this week’s Friday Field Notes, we will begin our exploration of the resources and programming that Military Families Learning Network provides to support Total Force Fitness with our Personal Finance team.Personal Finance and Total Force FitnessWhile financial fitness is not one of the eight core domains of Total Force Fitness, personal finances can affect all eight domains. For example, it can be difficult for service members to maintain social fitness if they argue frequently with their spouse about finances. Therefore, you will find plenty of resources from Personal Finance to support many of the Total Force Fitness Domains.Social Fitness: Personal Finance’s Family Finance Series provides information and strategies for meeting the financial needs that accompany changes in relationships (e.g., the birth of a child or divorce) that occur over one’s lifespan. Being prepared to meet these changes financially can help service members and their families focus on their relationships with loved ones to support social fitness.Medical and Dental, Nutritional, and Physical Fitness: While finances are not usually one of the first things that people think about when they hear physical health, finances and health are strongly tied and being prepared financially can support all areas of physical health and fitness. Personal Finance’s upcoming webinar, The Relationship Between Health and Finances, explores the interconnectedness of personal finance and health. One of the key ways that health and finances are interconnected is the cost of insurance. With Personal Finance’s Insurance Principles and Resources: What Financial Educators Need to Know webinar, you can learn about insurance basics, including ways to determine the coverage that is right for you. For additional information and resources, check out Small Steps to Health and Wealth, a program designed to build good habits that support both physical and financial health, created by Personal Finance team member, Dr. Barbara O’Neill.Behavioral Fitness: Risky health behaviors can often put service members and their families at risk financially. Personal Finances upcoming webinar, Gambling Disorders: Special Considerations for Service Members, explores research on the risk factors of gambling disorders as well as resources available to service members who are currently struggling with a gambling disorder. These are just a few of the resources available through the Personal Finance team that supports Total Force Fitness. To learn more about the professional development opportunities offered by Personal Finance, check out their team page.Additional Resources from Personal FinanceThe Personal Finance team provides professional development opportunities for Personal Financial Managers who support service members and their families through financial counseling and education. However, Personal Finance’s programming is easily accessible to everyone looking to improve their own finances and financial literacy. You can take advantage of their programming by joining a webinar, downloading a podcast, or joining the mailing list to get updates on timely blog posts.
Ashish Kumar has reached where no other Indian gymnast has gone before. With a silver medal in the vault, he gave the local crowd at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex something to shout about for the second successive day. After a bronze in the floor exercises on Thursday, he wrote a chapter for himself in the history annals of Indian gymnastics. But he will be left thinking of what might have been.Leading the field of eight gymnasts going into the last of his two attempts, after a display worth 16.150 points, the gold medal seemed within his grasp. But the lad from Allahabad gained more height than expected in his take-off and had to lean forward and put his hands on the landing area to keep his balance. The discrepancy brought his score from the second attempt down to 14.475, taking his average score down to 15.312.Ashish, thus, had to settle for silver behind England’s Luke Folwell (15.762) while Ian Galvan of Canada (15.037) clinched the bronze medal.Ashish had led the field in the qualification stage and was the favourite to take top honours. His first attempt only solidified his claim. With a tsukuhara and 2-1/ 2 salto with pike, he brought the house down. A degree of difficulty of 7 and execution of 9.150 speaks about his performance. But the 6.6 degree of difficulty and 8.175 execution in the roche hand spin put paid to his chances of a gold.Ashish, himself, was in a bittersweet mood after the event.”I would treat it as a gold medal missed,” he said.advertisementBut foreign coach Vladimir Chertkov had more positive feelings.”I think this is the beginning of a great chapter in the history of Indian gymnastics,” the Russianturned- American said.”What Ashish and the other gymnasts have achieved in a year, take four to eight years in other countries. This will give a boost to the sport in India and open some minds to the possibilities.”We had some bad luck at this Games that two of our gymnasts got injured. But they are all mature now and all the other teams now treat us with respect,” Chertkov said.Ashish said he had his sights firmly set on the yellow metal.”I was going for gold and the crowd support really helped. After winning the bronze yesterday, I had no pressure today. But I gained more height in the second attempt and that created a problem in the landing,” he explained. However, the two medals seem just rewards for the years of practice starting at 4.30 every morning.”I used to spoil everybody’s sleep in my house, but no one complained. When I used to leave home, everybody else in the world seemed to be in deep slumber,” Ashish recollected.Missing the upcoming world championships in Rotterdam, however, is a sore point with the gymnast as well as Chertkov.”I am disappointed that I will not be participating there. I would have competed against the best gymnasts in the field and would have had nothing to lose,” Ashish rued.Chertkov used stronger language to denounce the decision of the Gymnastics Federation of India not to send its team.”It’s the biggest act of stupidity, unbelievable nonsense,” he exclaimed. “Moreover, we will have to pay a penalty for not participating, and the amount is bigger than what it would have cost us to send the team,” the coach said.
