Half-time: Shrewsbury 0 Chelsea 0

first_imgChelsea struggled to create chances against an impressive Shrewsbury side in the first half of the Capital One Cup fourth-round clash. The Blues threatened early on in the teeming rain through Oscar’s shot and two tame Andre Schurrle strikes. But the Shrews, who have won their last four games, looked sharper and more cohesive and had the better opportunities until the latter stages of the half.Chelsea keeper Petr Cech had to make a sprawling near-post save to keep out Nathaniel Knight-Percival’s header from a corner and Bobby Grant also shot over.Chelsea began to dominate possession in the final 15 minutes, but Schurrle wasted the best opening when he declined the chance to head for goal following a swift break involving Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah.Manager Jose Mourinho started Nathan Ake and 18-year-old Danish defender Andreas Christensen, while fellow Blues youngsters Lewis Baker and Isaiah Brown are among the substitutes. Chelsea: Cech; Christensen, Zouma, Cahill, Filipe Luis; Mikel, Ake; Salah, Oscar, Schurrle; Drogba.Subs: Schwarzer, Terry, Matic, Baker, Willian, Hazard, Brown.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Hill defends under-fire Henry

first_imgQPR stalwart Clint Hill has defended Karl Henry, who was barracked by fans during the win against MK Dons at the weekend. The Rangers midfielder was booed along with head coach Chris Ramsey, who has also come under fire from supporters this season.Asked about the crowd turning on Henry, Hill told ‘Access All R’s’ on the club website: “It’s not great. Let’s not beat around the bush, it’s not nice.“It’s hard for him. It’s not nice when you’ve got your own fans booing.“He’s someone who gives everything in every game – he gives 100% and is always there putting a tackle or header in and always puts himself on the line.“He’s someone I can relate to. I’ve got a lot of time for him.”Ramsey defended Henry after Saturday’s game, insisting the 32-year-old “does a lot of unseen work” for the team.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Max enters the tree

first_imgShare with your Friends:More Geocachers are ambitious people, fighting norms, and always striving towards something bigger. Many geocachers love to set goals and achieve big milestones. One geocacher, Max Storms (Capraibex96), had a desire to achieve new heights with a little help from some friends. There’s an attribute that you see on most T1 urban caches, ‘wheelchair accessible’, that no longer applies to Max.His story starts in a small village in the Netherlands, in the province of Limburg. A few years ago, as Max was commuting to school, his bus driver invited the students to learn about geocaching hands-on after the school day. Max gets an FTF!“First my mum had an account (Teamstorms) and while she had an account I didn’t know if I would get excited for geocaching. But it was so fun for me! I decided to have an account by myself and began geocaching on my own. Because I can’t search for most of the geocaches on my own I started caching together with my mum and my sister. Now I cache with friends, buddies, and sometimes alone (with a helping arm/grabber).”Since December 2013 Max has become an avid geocacher and this past summer he was encroaching on his 1,000th find. Looking for inspiration for his 1,000th cache, Max reached out to his Facebook friends for help.Rob Stevelmans (Team DeRoLuCa) caught wind of Max’s 1,000th find and wanted to do something special for him. Max and Team DeRoLuCa first met at a geocaching event and over time they continued to bump into each other. Max became increasingly interested in the T5 tree caches Rob was finding and enjoyed hearing the stories about them.Image by RockhappyNL on GC5QHZ0A light-bulb went off in Rob’s head — “We need to get Max into a tree!” He called his friend Tom Kusters (thetris) to discuss the idea. After hours of strategizing, the two came up with a plan.First things first: Max’s mom needed to approve of the daring plan.Team DeRoLuCa invited Max’s mom and sister to the T5 cache they had in mind so the two could try it themselves.Max’s family loved the experience. As Team DeRoLuCa recalls, “After we talked about the plan and came up with the idea to use [Max’s] elevator mat he uses at home to get transferred for his wheelchair into bed, the plan was a go.”With mom’s approval Rob made an event to turn the plan into reality. On September 1st, 2017, 56 people attended the event to watch Max achieve his first D5/T5 geocache. We checked in with Max to see what he thought about the experience.Team DeRoLuCa says you were interested in their tree climbing cache adventures. How did it feel to be invited by them on an adventure? What thoughts did you have?I liked the idea that I’m going into a tree and finally could do an official T5. On the moment DeRoLuCa said that it is possible and they would do everything for me to make it happen I was very happy and I will enjoy that idea. My mum was also happy for me but she thought about my muscles (because my muscles can’t hold anything because I have a disability with my muscles in my arms and legs). What is your biggest motivation or what inspires you?Let people know what I can do from out a wheelchair. Most people did not know what I can, so if I do geocaching in a forest, people look at me and thinks, “How did he do that?” and my answer is, “You need something to do.”What did you think about when you signed the log book and everyone cheered for you?I was very surprised that so many people will see the moment that I ‘was able’ to get in a tree. I was also happy that much people came, that give me the feeling that this was seriously a big historic moment. By signing the logbook my only thought was, “YES I DID IT!’” And when everyone cheered it was more like, “Super fun and everyone is happy for me so I’m happy too!”What advice would you give to anyone who might be nervous about finding a T5 for the first time? Was this your first T5?When you will finding a T5 you can speak with others about their experiences. And then if you’re interested then go for it! But for the first time, ask to somebody (with climbing experiences) to help you just in case. What’s your next geocaching goal?At the tree climbing event some people asked me what I would do for my next achievement (2000th). I said “SCUBA cache” and then that idea is also only a maybe. It’s always best to set the bar high with goals even when they seem out of reach. With a little help from his friends Max was able to enter the tree and log the cache. What are you geocaching goals? Metadata: Folksonomy and the Art of Tagging in the Enterprise

first_imgIn the world of Web2.0 the concept of social bookmarking via Tagging has become a very popular way of classifying information.  This method of classification is being called folksonomy.  Two web sites that have popularized tagging are Flickr and deli.icio.us.  This approach is often described as being ‘democratic’ in that it allows full participation by an entire community in classifying and choosing content that has high relevancy.  It relies on a large number of active participants to classify and create the tags — generally the more participants involved, the greater the accuracy, the more content that gets tagged, and the easier it becomes for users to find information. The folksonomy approach compared to a more standard hierarchical taxonomy provides much more flexibility.  Tagging allows some content items to be easily related to multiple categories or groups, rather than being relegated to a single fixed bin or folder.  Frequently used tags are grouped into “tag clouds” that typically display a cluster of tag words of varying font sizes with the most commonly used tags being displayed in the largest font.Folksonomy is something very new and will no doubt evolve.  A weakness of current implementations is that tag clouds today have no other weightings than the number of times a tag is used.  Adding a dimension or weighting of time would make tag relevancies more accurate because tag relevancies can be skewed towards tags that have had a lot of activity during a short period of time but which later lose relevancy. In the enterprise, folksonomy and tagging could help users more easily find information, documents and projects.  Folksonomy could enhance a more traditional taxonomy approach, but in most cases, in a business environment, could not alone replace existing classification techniques.  Records Management initiatives, for example, are centered on the idea of being able to apply complex disposition and lifecyle information stored within a FilePlan, and the taxonomies associated with FilePlans are very rigidly defined.Taxonomy supplemented by Folksonomy can become a very powerful tool within the enterprise for assisting with enterprise search and improving user productivity.pfizer viagracheap xanaxlast_img read more

You’ve Got Millennials All Wrong

first_img Get the Free eBook! Learn how to sell without a sales manager. Download my free eBook! You need to make sales. You need help now. We’ve got you covered. This eBook will help you Seize Your Sales Destiny, with or without a manager. Download Now As far as I have been able to discern, the composition of sales forces hasn’t really changed all that much. For all the bad press the Millennial generation suffers, I’m having a tough time understanding how they’re different when it comes to the deep stuff of sales and success. There is a still a top 20 percent of every sales force, a 20 percent at the bottom, and the 60 percent that lies between the two poles. Some of that top 20 percent is made up of experienced, mature salespeople, and some of it is made up of folks from later generations, including the Millennials. The same is true for the rest of the bell curve, including the bottom 20 percent. Some people in sales roles have fast rapport skills, are gregarious by nature, and make selling look easy. There are plenty of confident Millennials who have no trouble creating new relationships. There are also people of every generation who are introverts and take a little more time to warm-up, which reminds me of a joke: “You know how you can tell an engineer is an extrovert? They look at your shoes when they’re talking to you.” I’ve seen research that suggests that ambiverts produce the best results in sales, but I’ve seen both introverts and extroverts succeed. Millennials look a lot like the rest of us when it comes building relationships, some easy and familiar, some a little more awkward. One of the more difficult deficiencies to coach in a salesperson is an aversion to conflict and difficult conversations. Being too deferential, or too fearful, eliminates the possibility of being a peer, and it is likely that person ends up being an order taker. That said, some people have a terrible time with conflict, some embrace it and use collaboration to defuse it, and some people relish a good fight, being sometimes too argumentative, and sometimes too combative. Millennials, as far as I can tell, seem to be spread across this spectrum, just like everyone else.Every generation is somewhat of a mystery to the generations that came before them. Eventually, they trade their version of idealism for the pragmatism that allows them to work, to support themselves, to take of their family, and to have whatever kind of life they want, most of which will look a lot like the lives of the generations before them.Millennials are going to be just fine. Remember the Baby Boomers grew up growing their hair, involved in all forms of shenanigans, and protesting against “the man.” Now they are “the man.”last_img read more

LeBron James not ‘chasing’ Lakers rebuild

first_imgJames said Thursday the move underscored the flipside of the NBA business. While teams often act ruthlessly in their own interests without reproach, players seen as agitating for a move were portrayed as selfish or greedy.“Teams have to do what’s best for the franchise to set them up for the future or the near present, and I agree with that,” James said.“But at the same time players have to have that ability to do what’s best for them as well. So if a player decides he’s a free agent and wants to leave, that should be part of the same conversation, the same narrative.“And not that this guy or this kid is being selfish or unfaithful. We only have so many years to play the game and you want to maximise it as much as possible. I see it on both sides.”Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next “There’s nothing I need to get in this league that I don’t already have,” James told reporters during a shootaround at the TD Garden. “Everything else for me is just like icing on the cake.“I love the process of everything I go through to be able to compete every single night and put teams in position to compete for championships. NFL Suspends Troubled Titans WR Kenny Britt For One

He’s become the poster child for what’s wrong with the league in the eyes of many, an out-of-control professional athlete whose sense of entitlement leads him to believe that rules apply to others than himself. But the NFL showed surprisingly relative leniency to Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt on the heels of his eighth run-in with the law since entering the league in 2009. Just weeks after meeting with him for the second time in a year, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Thursday that the troubled 23-year-old Britt has been suspended for just one game for repeated violations of the league’s personal conduct policy. The fourth-year pro out of Rutgers will sit out the Titans’ Sept. 9 season opener against New England before returning for the following week’s game at San Diego.“It’s actually a gift from God that it’s only a week,” Britt told The Tennessean following his team’s 10-6 win over the visiting New Orleans Saints in Thursday night’s preseason finale.“I’m just happy that God spoke to [Goodell] and put the right thing in his heart, and we move forward. … I just have to take it on the chin, and that is what I’m doing.”Britt said he has no plans to appeal. As part of the penalty, he will be docked more than $44,000, which is one-seventeenth of his $755,000 base salary this season. The Titans will designate Britt as Reserve/Suspended so that he will not count against the team’s 53-man roster for the first week.Britt will not be allowed to work out at the team facility in Nashville during his suspension, but plans to remain in Knoxville and prepare for his first game action since suffering a major knee injury early last season.“To tell you the truth, I didn’t know what I was expecting,” he said. “I did know I was in some trouble in the past, and now it is behind me. Now I am happy, this is in the past and I am ready to focus on two weeks from now.”On July 20, Britt was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence as he was trying to pass through a security gate at the Fort Campbell. It was his eighth incident involving police since the Titans drafted him in 2009. Goodell summoned him to New York for a meeting on Aug. 6.Britt avoided discipline after last year’s meeting with Goodell because several of the incidents occurred during the NFL lockout in which time there was no collective bargaining agreement between the players and the league. Goodell, however, warned of a suspension should further trouble arise.Britt was off to strong start last year before suffering a torn right ACL in Sept. 25 game against the Denver Broncos that required season-ending surgery. read more
