ARLINGTON, TX – SEPTEMBER 15: Interim head coach Ryan Day of the Ohio State Buckeyes reacts during The AdvoCare Showdown against the TCU Horned Frogs at AT&T Stadium on September 15, 2018 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)Ryan Day isn’t expected to make a ton of changes as Ohio State’s head coach in 2019, but the Buckeyes’ new leader is going to bring in some of his own assistants. At least one of those assistant coaching hires will be a big one, as Ohio State needs a new offensive coordinator with Day’s promotion.Lettermen’s Row is reporting that Ohio State is looking at a big name to fill that role.Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator, Mike Yurcich, is reportedly a candidate for Ohio State’s offensive coordinator gig. From the report:Multiple sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is a name to watch for the Buckeyes once the Rose Bowl is in the rearview mirror and Day gets to work on putting his imprint on the staff. At the moment, Ohio State has been using Corey Dennis to fill the 10th spot on the staff as a recruiter, and it will be interesting to see what role the senior quality control coach will have moving forward since the only other potential change on that side of the ball would likely be on the offensive line.It feels like a reasonably safe assumption that Kevin Wilson would be retained to continue his prolific partnership with Day, but adding another quarterback guru with Ohio ties and recruiting experience like Yurcich would be a strong, savvy move.Ohio State’s offense was one of the best in the country in 2018, so the Buckeyes aren’t going to want to make a ton of changes regardless of what hires are made. The Buckeyes are set to end their season on Jan. 1.Ohio State and Washington are set to kick off at the Rose Bowl at 5 p.m. E.T. on New Year’s Day.The game will be on ESPN.
